Menopause Study

I am a part of a study that is looking to see whether or not neurofeedback can reduce the symptoms of menopause. I am looking to enroll women who are experiencing menopause and are willing to do neurofeedback to possibly reduce symptoms.

Facts:

Menopause is becoming more and more a focus of society. At a mean age of 51 (mostly between 40 and 58), most women experience first menopause symptoms, which can vary according to the cultural, familiar and social background, but also according to the general health condition and well-being. Menopause symptoms are reported to last around 4- 5 years. Symptoms are manifold and embrace hot flashes, night sweat, vaginal dryness, sleep disturbance, depression, anxiety, memory loss, fatigue, concentration disorder, mood changes, headache, joint pains and weight gain. Around 500.000 women annually go into menopause, which shows the high prevalence of this condition. A standard treatment to alleviate symptoms is hormone replacement therapy, but also the uptake of medication to ease symptoms like headaches, sleep disturbance or depression is commonly used. Alternative methods that help without adverse effects are needed. ILF Neurofeedback aims to improve the brain's self-regulatory capacity.

Several studies have shown that Neurofeedback can help with several of the above mentioned symptoms like depression , pain and sleep, concentration, anxiety and fatigue. Therefore, it is of big interest to study the influence of Neurofeedback on menopause. Especially ILF Neurofeedback seems to be a promising method as it is a symptom based approach. The electrode placement is performed according to the recorded symptoms.
